What started out as a simple project, has now become quite large. I have successfully installed/configured a software raid 5(see definition below) onto a 64 bit Ubuntu 9.04 server using MDADM. The OS is on a single disk; quite a learning curve. The intention and plan now is to install both OS's within Virtual Machines(Virtual Box) and thus have full control and separate controllable environments. So I have been working on installing Zimbra as well as attempting to migrate all of our accounts from the old server to the new one. A few things as far as apps, and programs used to help this out, coupled with some of the commands that were extremely useful are to be listed below. This has been an extremely heavy project and still is not complete. for starters: bind9 is a pain to use; cheat by using webmin, an extremely powerful extremely dangerous utility that allows you to manipulate your entire system from a gui. Very scary. Importing your mail requires alot of patience as there is more to it then just a single command... you must: 1. know all the account information 2. Recreate the accounts manually on the new system 3. enable clear passwords on both systems play with the system and "trick" it into working. and finally you must follow the guide.. I would put the pertinant information within here... but its quite long.... http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=Mail_Migration Software Raid: The operating system(Windows/Linux controls the read/write process to multiple disks, thus increasing the speed of the disks, and allowing for some file redundancy; failsafe for hard-drive failure; at the cost of a few CPU cycles. More to come.... We will update as required. Technical Staff Done Right I.T. |
